Mission Statement
To preserve 11.6 acres of natural land on Marco Island that is home to wildlife, including a pair of bald eagles, to protect their habitat, and educate school children and adults the importance of conservation and expandsion our wildlife population.
Organizational Overview
Florida’s massive population growth and booming tourism industry have compromised many natural areas across the state. Each month, natural land and wildlife disappear in Collier County due to commercial and residential development. Marco Island is a 4 by 6 mile island with scare green-space left after years of development. Our intent is to create a unique nature preserve and bird sanctuary that will foster an appreciation for the natural world and ecosystems around us through preservation and education. Our organization currently presents educational outreach programs in classrooms. Our goal is to build a pavilion on the Nature Preserve to serve as a sheltered outdoor classroom and lecture site. The Marco Eagle Sanctuary Foundation was founded in 2010 for the purpose of protecting 11.6 acres of natural land, wildlife, including a pair of resident bald eagles and the habitat on Marco Island. This green-space, the Marco Island Nature Preserve and Bird Sanctuary, has been home to over 20 species of birds, over 24 native plants as well as native shrubs and trees. The Marco Island Nature Preserve and Bird Sanctuary is a 501 (c) (3), 100% volunteer organization managed by the Marco Eagle Sanctuary Foundation Board of Directors.
