In 1964, Marco Island was designated as an eagle sanctuary as it was home to numerous bald eagle nests. Years of dredging and development have negatively impacted the land as natural land and wildlife disappear. Today, only two active bald eagle nests that successfully produce offspring, exist on Marco Island. To help curb the negative environmental impact of land development, there must be education on the need for preservation and conservation. The Marco Eagle Sanctuary Foundation (MESF) was founded in 2010. Our project is the Marco Island Nature Preserve and Bird Sanctuary.
