Mission Statement
ESHP’s mission is to preserve historic sites, structures, documents, artifacts and memories within the Everglades area. The Society was founded at the end of 2004. Its territory of interest includes Everglades City, Plantation Island, Chokoloskee, Ochopee, Copeland & Lee Cypress, and Jerome.
Organizational Overview
ESHP is a 501(c)(3) charitable corporation comprised of concerned citizens who are interested in preserving all historic sites, structures, historic sites, structures, documents, artifacts and memories within documents, artifacts and memories in the Everglades City area. The Society was founded in late 2004 and initially concentrated on City Hall restoration. Directors are elected to the Board by the membership every three years and are responsible for various projects. ESHP participates in local events and organizes informative talks open the public. ESHP operates the Everglades Area Visitor Center with local volunteers providing information to tourists on the opportunities of what to do and see in our historic surroundings. In June 2022 Everglades City was listed in the Smithsonian magazine as one of the 15 Best Small Towns to Visit in 2022.
