Bikes for Tykes, Inc.

Mission Statement

The mission of Bikes for Tykes is to strengthen communities through gifting of bicycles to children in order to promote healthy living in childhood and beyond.

Organizational Overview

We are a 100% volunteer organization that ‘re-cycles’ unwanted bicycles to those of S.W. Florida who need transportation and to children that may never get a bicycle of their own.

Statement of Need

Collier County in particular, has a great number of low income families and migrant population that are unable to afford automobiles. Bikes For Tykes, Inc. tries to make transportation available to them. The use of a bicycle and the ‘CAT’ an Lee County Transit bus systems allows a means of getting anywhere in S.W. Florida. As for children, we all remember our first bicycle. It empowers children to visit friends, go shopping, get to ball practice, to school, and, many other place a child wants to go. The health benefits a bike provides is needed to grow strong and healthy. Florida is number 2 in the US for childhood obesity.
