Organizational Overview

Our organization was initially formed in 2003 as the Collier County Housing Development Corporation (CCHDC). There was a true need for affordable and workforce housing at this time, and the CCHDC was created at the recommendation of a local Workforce Housing Task Force. CCHDC received 501(c) tax-exempt status in 2004. As the economic climate and real estate market shifted, so did the needs of the community. In 2009, the CCHDC officially changed its name to the Housing Development Corporation of SW Florida, Inc. (HDC), and added staff to provide housing counseling services. We received initial HUD approval as a Local Housing Counseling Agency in May of 2009, and maintain this designation today as the only HUD-approved agency in Collier County. In 2014, HDC started doing business as HELP (Housing, Education, Lending Programs) to clarify the mission and vision of the organization. In addition to our work in foreclosure prevention, we have provided home buyer education and individual credit/financial counseling since 2008. In 2019, the agency was selected by Collier County through a request for proposals to launch a Community Land Trust. The Collier County Community Land Trust, Inc. was officially incorporated on January 2, 2020, and is managed under contract agreement by HELP.
